File Limits and Performance

Because Papr runs in your browser, performance depends on your device and the complexity of the PDF. Large files can still work, but they may load slowly or consume more memory. These tips help keep the editor responsive.

What Makes a File Heavy

  • High-resolution images or scanned pages.
  • Hundreds of pages or very large page dimensions.
  • Embedded fonts and complex vector artwork.
  • Many annotations layered on top of each page.

Browser and Device Factors

The editor runs entirely on your device, so available memory and CPU affect performance. Modern browsers handle large PDFs well, but older devices may need smaller files or fewer open tabs.

Tips for Faster Editing

  • Split long PDFs into smaller sections before editing.
  • Compress scanned PDFs to reduce image size.
  • Close other browser tabs to free memory.
  • Export regularly so you do not rely on local storage alone.

Local Storage Limits

Papr can save sessions locally, but browsers limit how much data each site can store. If a file is too large, you may see a warning that auto-save could not complete. Export your PDF and clear old sessions if needed.

If the Editor Feels Slow

  • Try closing the document and reopening it in smaller chunks.
  • Remove unneeded pages before adding new annotations.
  • Use OCR only on the pages that need it.
  • Export a copy and refresh the page to clear memory.
