Privacy and Security
Papr is designed so your PDFs stay on your device. The editor runs in your browser and processes files locally instead of uploading them to a server.
Data flow at a glance
- You open a PDF locally in your browser.
- Edits and exports are processed on your device.
- Some features download assets like OCR and translation model files.
- Export can optionally scrub metadata from output files.
- Contact form submissions are sent to Web3Forms.
Local Processing
PDF editing, annotations, and exports happen on your computer. Papr does not transmit your files to our servers.
This design reduces risk by keeping sensitive documents on your device. It also means you stay in control of where your files are stored and who can access them.
Downloaded Assets
Some features download OCR language data and translation model files from third-party content delivery networks. These requests include standard web information such as IP address and user agent, but they do not include your PDF content.
Once downloaded, many assets are cached so that features like OCR can run offline on later visits. Translation models are also cached locally so repeated translations do not require another download.
Metadata and Export Hygiene
PDF metadata can contain details like title, author, creator tool, and timestamps. In the Export modal, enable Scrub metadata to remove those document properties from the exported PDF.
This is especially useful when sharing files externally and you want to minimize embedded document history.
Local Storage
Papr stores sessions and preferences in your browser (IndexedDB and localStorage) so you can recover work and keep settings between visits. You can clear this data in your browser settings at any time.
- Sessions include your PDF data and annotations.
- Preferences include theme and editor settings.
- Clearing site data removes local sessions and preferences.
What Papr Does Not Do
- We do not upload your PDF files to our servers.
- We do not run analytics on your document content.
- We do not sell your personal data.
Contact Form Data
If you use the Contact Us form, your message is transmitted via Web3Forms so it can reach us. Only the information you submit is sent.
