Use Papr with an AI agent
An AI agent that runs in your browser can work in Papr for you: fill in a spreadsheet, draft a document, or mark up and redact a PDF. Papr gives the agent tools for this through WebMCP, a new browser feature, so the agent works with the editor directly and you watch the changes happen on the page.
What you need
WebMCP is new, and only some browsers have it. Chrome offers it as a test feature: open chrome://flags/#enable-webmcp-testing, set it to Enabled and restart Chrome. You also need an agent that can use WebMCP tools, such as a browser extension built for it. In a browser without WebMCP, Papr works exactly as before.
What an agent can do
Each editor offers its own tools while it is open.
- Sheets: read and write cells, formulas and formats, fill and copy ranges, sort and filter, merge cells, freeze rows, add rules, manage the sheets of a workbook, and export to Excel, CSV or PDF.
- Docs: read the document, add or replace text and headings (written as Markdown), find and replace, format text and paragraphs, add lists, links, pictures, tables and a table of contents, change the page setup, run the accessibility check, and export to Word, PDF or Markdown.
- PDF editor: read and search the text of pages, highlight, underline or strike through words, mark text or areas for redaction, add text boxes, comments, shapes, stamps and links, fill form fields, add bookmarks, rotate, move, delete or add pages, add page numbers or a watermark, run OCR, and export, extract or convert the file.
- Everywhere: undo and redo, save now, and open your saved documents, workbooks and PDF sessions. On the website, an agent can list the guides and open an editor.
You stay in charge
- Every change appears on the page as it happens, and the status bar says AI agent working while an agent is making changes.
- Each thing an agent does is one step for Undo, so Ctrl+Z takes it back as it would your own change.
- Before an agent deletes a document, a workbook or a sheet, or merges cells that hold values, Papr asks you. Nothing is deleted unless you agree. Annotations and pages an agent removes from a PDF come back with Undo.
- While a Papr dialog is open, or while you are typing in a cell, an agent's changes wait. Your typing is never taken over.
- Redactions an agent marks are applied when the file is exported, exactly as yours are. Check them before you share the file.
What an agent cannot do
- Open a file from your device. Browsers only open the file picker when you click, so open the file yourself and then ask the agent to work on it.
- Enter or set passwords, or unlock a protected PDF.
- Send your work anywhere through Papr. Papr's tools never make a request to the internet.
Try it on your own file
