Local Sessions and Auto-save
Papr keeps your work in your browser, so you can close the tab and come back to it. The work never goes to a Papr server: it stays on this device, in this browser.
What is saved
- PDF sessions: the PDF file, its annotations, bookmarks, the OCR text of its pages, and where you were in the document.
- Documents and workbooks in Docs and Sheets: their text, formulas, values and formatting.
Sessions, documents and workbooks are stored in IndexedDB, the browser's database for larger records. The browser's localStorage holds only small items: your theme choice, the last document you opened, and a short-lived copy of unsaved changes (described below).
When it saves
Papr saves about five seconds after your last change. If you leave the page, or switch to another tab, it saves straight away. A save that fails is reported, and Papr tries again.
Docs and Sheets also keep a recovery copy of unsaved changes in localStorage. If the tab closes before the save completes, Papr compares that copy with the saved document the next time you open it, and uses the copy only when it is newer.
Resume later
The start screen lists your recent sessions with their names, page counts and sizes. Click Resume to reopen one exactly where you left it. A password-protected PDF asks for its password first.
A saved session is a copy, not the original file. Export the PDF when you want a file you can send or keep.
Clearing saved work
You can delete one session, or all of them, from the Recent Sessions list. Papr never removes a saved session on its own: when storage is nearly full, a save fails and Papr tells you, and nothing already saved is touched. Clearing the site data in your browser's settings removes every session, document and workbook, along with the other local items.
If a session is missing
- Check that you are using the same browser profile and the same address. Another address is another store.
- A private or incognito window keeps nothing after the window closes.
- Look for a storage warning: the browser may have cleared the site's data.
